Because of the island's small size, most of the residents get around on bikes to get between towns or other close commutes. There are of course cars on the island, but only a handful of gas stations, and everything is only a few miles ride away. If they need to get to the other side of the island, it's about a three hour drive, and each family usually has one car. Residents prefer the quiet, and the pollution and noise from cars can agitate the fae. There are various bike trails in the forest that act as shortcuts, but one has to be careful to not get lost when the twists become a maze.
Most young people's bikes are inherited from family members, or families will share bikes since there is also a large amount of traveling on foot.
